Aerodynamics play a large role in the behavior of road vehicles. Understanding the effects it has on passenger comfort, fuel consumption and performance is paramount when designing world class vehicles. By utilizing the tools at Caster, students are able to make that essential connection between theory and practice and therefore have a greater understanding of how to design cars of the future.
The session starts off with a few practice laps to get comfortable with driving in the simulator. Once the students feel confident behind the wheel, they perform multiple runs with different aerodynamics setups that affect the vehicles driving properties. Data is collected after the various tests for further use later in the course.
One of the core principles at Caster is to offer the students at Chalmers more ways to connect the complicated and sometimes abstract theory with what it can translate to in the real world. By partnering with courses, such as Road Vehicle Aerodynamics, we truly live up to the words “Engineers in the front seat.”
